Types of language

Journalism is a rough draft of history. A reporter’s job is to cover what happened and how it happened. They should not censor out things- should give accurate information. The language used by a journalist can be classified into three. They are Report language, Inference language and Judgement language

Report language

This is very dry in tone. The message conveyed through this is explicit without interpretation comment or value judgement. The language used in instruction manual is an example for report language.

Inference language

This is making a statement about the unknown on the basis of the known.

Judgement language

This makes inference one step further. It makes value statements about the events, people or issues. It also brings rightness or wrongness in a matter.
