Mr and Mrs Iyer

I think I missed out this beautiful movie which was released years back,to be exact in 2002. It took eleven years for me to watch this movie after its release. Though there was an expectation on Aparna Sen's work , never I expected it to take me to another world of love and hatred. One can find the power of religion and culture , how it influence a educated person and an illiterate. Religion plays an important role in one's life, no matter how much literacy you have. On one side people are running all around to kill fellow mates in the name of god whereas on the other end you can see the sacred love of two individuals irrespective of their religion. Though in the beginning Mrs Iyer found it difficult to adjust with Raja , as the time passed her situations made her so close to him . Each and every scene in the movie is familiar to Indians. The conservative nature of orthodox Tamil brahmins and their practices are given a satire approach. One comment that I liked in this aspect is even after getting a post graduation in Physics how conservative Mrs Iyer is. It sounds really funny but that was a fact in the beginning of the movie but towards the end Mr Iyer's love and care was above all the concepts she learnt. Mrs Iyer did not get time to bother what she was , she was living in the dream world created by him. The narration he gives about their first meeting, trips to the forest areas and temples in the south, tree house where they lived, made her lead a life which she actually need but never got. Those few days with Raja was the real time she lived though it did not last for long.

We are all human beings who keep the thirst for love in heart. Never we feel satisfied in love , the more you get , the more you need. That's what Mrs Iyer expected from Mr Iyer (Raja)

എന്റെ കലാലയ ജീവിതത്തിനു ശേഷം മറ്റൊരു കലാലയത്തിൽ ഓണാഘോഷത്തിനു സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിക്കേണ്ടി വരുമെന്ന് ഒരിക്കലും കരുതിയിരുന്നില്ല . എന്നാലും എപ്പോഴോക്കൊയോ ഞാൻ അറിയാതെ മനസ്സ് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു കാണും. അത് കൊണ്ടാവും ഈ വർഷത്തെ ഓണം എന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്ന ചിലരോടൊപ്പം എന്റെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട വിദ്യാർഥികളോടൊപ്പം ചിലവഴിക്കാൻ എനിക്കായത് .

ഇവിടെ ഈ കുറിപ്പ് എഴുതുമ്പോൾ എന്റെ മനസ്സില് ആദ്യം എത്തുന്നത് ഞാൻ തന്നെ പണ്ട് എഴുതിയ ഒരിക്കലും പുറംലോകം കാണാത്ത എന്റെ കൃതി " കോളേജിലെ ഓണാഘോഷം " ആണ്.മാസികയിൽ എഴുതാമോ എന്ന് ചോദിച്ച ഉടനെ സമ്മതം മൂളി അന്നത്തെ ആവേശത്തിൽ എഴുതി എന്നല്ലാതെ അത് ആരൊക്കെ വായിക്കുമെന്നോ ഏതെങ്കിലും മാസികയിൽ  പ്രസിധീകരിക്കുമെന്നൊ ഒന്നും ആലോചിച്ചില്ല (അതിനെ കുറിച്ച് പറഞ്ഞെന്നെ കളിയാക്കുന്ന ചിലരുണ്ട് എന്റെ സുഹൃത്ത് വലയത്തിൽ) .ഓർക്കുമ്പോൾ എല്ലാം ഓർമകളിൽ കുറിച്ചിടാനാവുന്ന നിമിഷങ്ങൾ .

എന്നാൽ ഈ വർഷം തികച്ചും വ്യതസ്തമെന്നു തന്നെ പറയാം.വിദ്യാർഥിയുടെ കുപ്പായത്തിൽ നിന്നും മാറി ഒരു അദ്ധ്യാപിക ആയി. കുട്ടികൾക്ക്‌ വേണ്ടി അവരുടെ കളിയും ചിരിയും ബഹളവുമെല്ലാം. അവർക്കായി ഒരുക്കിയ പൂക്കളം. എല്ലാം അവരുടെ ആഘോഷത്തിനായി . എല്ലാത്തിനും അവരോടൊപ്പം നിന്നു എല്ലാവരെയും പോലെ ഞാനും ആസ്വദിച്ചു . മത്സരങ്ങളിൽ എല്ലാം ഏവരും വളരെ ഉത്സാഹത്തോടെ പങ്കെടുത്തു .

എല്ലാത്തിനുമൊടുവിൽ അവർ ഞങ്ങൾക്കായി ഒരുക്കിയ കളിയും തമാശയും എന്നും ഓർമയിൽ സൂക്ഷിക്കാവുന്ന ചില നല്ല നിമിഷങ്ങൾ. മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത അവർ ഒരുക്കിയ കളിയിൽ എന്റെ വേഷം ഒരു ഗായിക ആയിരുന്നു. എന്റെ കലാലയത്തിൽ ഞാൻ പാടിയ പരിപാടികൾ വിരലിൽ എണ്ണാൻ പോലുമില്ല എന്നിട്ടും എവിടുന്നോ കിട്ടിയ ധൈര്യത്തിൽ ഒരു ഹിന്ദി പാട്ടങ്ങു പാടി.

ഒരു വ്യത്യസ്തതയും ആഘോഷങ്ങളിൽ എനിക്കു തോന്നിയില്ല. മലയാളികൾ എവിടെ ആണെങ്കിലും ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ എന്നും ഒരുപോലെ തന്നെ.

Better late than never.

What are the qualities needed for a good student? the answer varies according to people but in general some common opinion may also arise. I don't demand others to have the same view as mine. 

By chance I came across a group of some students who use harsh words to criticize their college , rules and regulations. If he/she is a good student , what is needed is sincerity and frankness, a mind to speak out the actual opinion right in front of the teachers and authority. Its easy for everyone to hide their identity and blame the college but its not easy to say opinions frankly. I feel pity for those students who hide behind the title anonymous and sprout out words which they don't deserve to use. A student can say suggestions and opinion only if he/she is qualified enough to be a student, or one who deserve to be addressed a student is free to speak. Without doing the role of a student nobody has the right to criticize any authority. When you are a college student you become a major, you become a nation's citizen, you become tomorrow' s leader. I doubt , with this nature , with this character how do you expect to lead a successful life? What is the meaning of youth? It does not mean to live and do anything as you wish and please, it does not indicate to have ultimate freedom. Somewhere I read "your freedom ends at your finger tip" so better know that you are not the lone survivors in this earth . Accept the freedom of others who are qualified enough to make rules and regulations. If you find any difficulty in obeying those rules you have an easy choice , drop out and leave the campus, instead of playing a dirty game in social networking. Learn to know the rules of a nation before taking your first step on that land, after doing a mistake there is no point in saying sorry I am unaware of the rule . Rule is a rule , nobody will come to you and say these are the rules and regulations , it's one's duty to know the country or organisation . Better learn to speak out openly rather than playing hide and seek which never add on your personality but only degrade it and people underestimate you for your actions. 

Better late than never.

Technopark alone is not hitech. I think the people around the area has also turned out hitech. :)
Got to catch an auto from there, without even knowing whether the customer is a malayalee or not, driver told the amount in english, thinking as if we are from north India . I tried my level best not to reveal my surprise in face. While there was a chat inside the auto with me and my mother so I am sure that he might have heard us talking in malayalam. At the end of journey , we gave the amount and to my surprise he rendered the next word Thank you.
Oh my god ! malayalees changed a lot... their attitude changed but that change is applicable only in and around technopark. I never found or felt it anywhere outside it. No other auto drivers behave that kind or deliver a thank you at the end of journey.
But I am sad in one thing why cant that thank you be in our language , that can make us more closer . Let us learn to behave properly as malayalees in our language malayalam. why do we need a foreign language for good mannerisms. 

New phase

The new phase in life as a teacher is interesting. The first day went really well with good cooperation and response from the students. I never expected to be in a place to train the future generations , I don't think that is an easy task because if I make mistake in instructing them then they are the losers. It is not yet time to understand there academic skill , exams are yet to arrive to know them more. Love and care I get from my colleagues are also to be praised. Lets see how long it goes. The airy wind that blows in the campus sooth the mind of both students and staff. The calm and cool atmosphere provides an excellent atmosphere to learn , classrooms have the effect of open space with nature around in its utmost beauty.

ജോണ്‍ എബ്രഹാം എന്ന പേര് കേട്ടാൽ മസ്സിലും പെരുക്കി നിൽക്കുന്ന ഹിന്ദി സിനിമ നടനെയാണ് പലരും ഓർമ്മിക്കുക . ക്ഷമിക്കണം , ഞാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച ജോണ്‍ മലയാളിയായ കുട്ടനാട്ടുകാരൻ , സിനിമ സംവിധായകൻ . സിനിമയിലെ ഹിറ്റ്ലർ എന്ന് സ്വയം വിശേഷണം നൽകിയ ജോണിനെ കുറിച്ചൊന്നും അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു . യാദ്രിശ്ചികമായി കൈവന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകം ജോണിന്റെ ആശയ തീരത്തിലേക്കും സ്വപ്നലോകത്തെക്കുമുള്ള വാതിൽ എന്റെ മുന്നിൽ തുറക്കപ്പെട്ടു . ജോണിനെ അധികമാർക്കും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാതിരിക്കാനുള്ള കാരണം ആ പുസ്തക താളുകള മുഴുമിക്കും മുൻപേ എനിക്കു മനസ്സിലായി . സിനിമയോടുള്ള സ്നേഹവും ആത്മാർഥതയും മാത്രമുള്ളിൽ കൊണ്ടു നടന്ന ഒരതുല്യ പ്രതിഭാസം . ഇന്നത്തെ പ്രശസ്തരും അപ്രശസ്തരുമായ സംവിധായകരെ പോലെ അല്ല ജോണ്‍ . തന്റെ സിനിമ എവിടെ തുടങ്ങണം എങ്ങനെ മുന്നോട്ടു പോകണം എവിടെ അവസാനിക്കണം എന്ന് മാത്രമല്ല ജോണ്‍ ചിന്തിച്ചത് . ഓരോ സീനിലും എന്തെല്ലാം ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തണം , ക്യാമറ ലെൻസിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം , എഡിറ്റിംഗ് മുതലായ സാങ്കേതിക വശങ്ങളും മനസ്സിലാക്കി. സിനിമയുണ്ടാക്കി സമ്പാദിച്ച് പണക്കാരനാവാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല . താനുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന സിനിമ പ്രേക്ഷകരിലെത്തണം എന്ന മോഹം ജോണിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു .
ഇന്ന് നമുക്ക് ചുറ്റിലും കാണുന്ന ഒരു ഇന്റെല്ലെക്ക് ച്ചുവൽ വ്യക്തിത്വമല്ല ജോണ്‍ . സാധാരക്കാർക്കിടയിലൂടെ നടന്ന ഒരു പ്രതിഭാസമെന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാം . അഗ്രഹാരത്തിലെ കഴുത അങ്ങനൊരു പേര് സിനിമയ്ക്ക് നൽക്കാൻ മറ്റാർക്കും പറ്റില്ല .അതാണ് ജോണ്‍ .കഴുത എടുക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി ഒരവസരത്തിൽ യഥാർത്ഥ കഴുതയുടെ തലയോട്ടി അന്വേഷിച്ചു നടന്നു . ഒടുവിൽ മരിച്ചിട്ട് രണ്ടാഴ്ചയായ കഴുതയുടെ തലയോട്ടി ആ ദുർഗന്ധത്തോടെ കുഴിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ സംവിധായക വേഷമണിഞ്ഞ ആരുടെ കൈയും ഒന്നറയ്ക്കും . പക്ഷെ അവിടെയും ജോണ്‍ വേറിട്ട്‌ നിന്നു .അമ്മ എന്നാ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യത്തോട് വല്ലാത്ത അടുപ്പമായിരുന്നു ജോണിന് . താനെടുത്ത എല്ലാ സിനിമകളിലും അമ്മയെ പരാമർശിക്കാൻ ജോണ്‍ മറന്നില്ല..
ഏതൊരു സിനിമയുടെയും വിജയത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ സംവിധായകനാണെന്ന് ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചു . സിനിമയുടെ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരംശം പോരാ എന്ന് തോന്നിയാൽ അത് സംവിധായകന്റെ പരാജയമാണ് . സംഗീതം ആവശ്യമെങ്കിൽ മാത്രം സംവിധായകനത് ഉൾപ്പെടുത്താം . ഏതെങ്കിലും സിനിമയിൽ തിരക്കഥ കൊള്ളാം പക്ഷെ സിനിമ പോരാ എന്ന് അഭിപ്രായം ഉയർന്നാൽ അവിടെയും പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നത് സംവിധായകനാണ് . സംവിധായകൻ പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നിടങ്ങലിലാണ് തിരക്കഥകൃത്തും മറ്റും വിജയിക്കുന്നത് .
സിനിമ എന്നും സംവിധായകന് മാത്രം സ്വന്തം.മറ്റുള്ളവർ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല എന്ന് അതിനർഥമില്ല . പക്ഷെ മറ്റുള്ളവർ എന്ത് ചെയ്യണമെന്നു തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നത് സംവിധായകനാണ് . മറ്റുള്ളവരെ എങ്ങോട്ട് എങ്ങനെ നയിക്കണമെന്ന വ്യക്തമായ ധാരണ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു ജോണ്‍ എന്ന സംവിധായകന് .

ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ അപ്പൂപ്പന്റെ ഫോട്ടോഗ്രഫി പ്രണയത്തിൽ നിന്നും തുടങ്ങിയ കലാജീവിതം ജയ പരാജയങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മിശ്രമായിരുന്നു . സിനിമയിൽ നിന്നും മനസ്സകന്നു പോകാതിരിക്കാൻ വിവാഹം വേണ്ടാന്ന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു . അവാർഡുകളൊന്നും ലഭിക്കാത്തതിന്റെ കാരണം തിരക്കിയപ്പോൾ പറഞ്ഞ മറുപടി രസകരമാണ്  " ഞാൻ വിധി കർത്താവല്ലായിരുന്നു . ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എല്ലാം ഞാൻ തന്നെ അടിച്ചെടുത്തേനെ "
മലയാളി ആയിട്ടും ആദ്യ സിനിമ തമിഴിനു സ്വന്തം . ശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ വളർച്ചയും ഉപയോഗവും എതിർത്തില്ല പക്ഷെ അതിലും നിർബന്ധം ഒന്നിൽ മാത്രം സംവിധായകന്റെ തീരുമാനത്തിനനുസരിച്ചു മാത്രം ശാസ്ത്രം പ്രവർത്തിക്കണം . നല്ല സിനിമകൾ ജനങ്ങളിൽ എത്തിക്കാത്തത് കൊണ്ടാണ് അവർ ചീഞ്ഞളിഞ്ഞ സിനിമകൾക്ക്‌ പിന്നാലെ പോകുന്നത് എന്നാ സത്യം ജോണ്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിരുന്നു .
ഇത്രയൊക്കെ ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞല്ലോ എന്നാൽ ജോണിന്റേതായ ഒരു സിനിമ പോലും ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല . കേട്ടതും വായിച്ചതും മാത്രമാണിതെല്ലാം . ആരോ തീരുമാനിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഈ പുസ്തകമെന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തി അതുപോലൊരു തീരുമാനത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ കഴുതയും , ചെറിയാച്ചനും ,അമ്മയും എന്നരികിലേക്കൊഴുകി എത്തും .

തിരക്കഥ - വാക്കുകൾക്ക് അതീതമാണ് ചില സിനിമകളും ഗാനങ്ങളും

തിരക്കഥ - വളരെ പരിചിതമായ ഒരു മലയാള വാക്ക് . പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് സിനിമയിൽ . തിരക്കഥ ഇല്ലാതെന്ത് സിനിമ എന്ന് തോന്നിയാലാരെയും കുറ്റം പറയാനാവില്ല . ശക്തമായ തിരക്കഥയും അതിനെ പ്രേക്ഷകർക്ക് സ്വീകാര്യമായ രീതിയിൽ ക്യാമറയിൽ പകർത്താൻ കഴിവുള്ള ഒരു സംവിധായകനുമാണ്‌ ഏതൊരു സിനിമയുടെയും വിജയം . ആ നിലയ്ക്ക് നോക്കിയാൽ രഞ്ജിത്ത്  എന്ന സംവിധായകന്റെ വ്യക്തി മുദ്ര പതിഞ്ഞ സിനിമയാണ് തിരക്കഥ .

ആനുകാലിക പ്രസക്തിയുള്ള കാൻസർ എന്ന മഹാ വിപത്ത് എങ്ങനെ സ്നേഹബന്ധങ്ങളെ തച്ചുടയ്ക്കുന്നുവെന്ന് കാണിച്ച സിനിമ . സിനിമയ്ക്കുള്ളിലെ സിനിമ പ്രമേയമാക്കിയ മലയാള സിനിമകൾ വേറെയുമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും തിരക്കഥ അതിൽ നിന്നുമെല്ലാം വേറിട്ട്‌ നില്ക്കുന്നു . സംവിധാനത്തിലും അഭിനയ മികവിലും ചിത്രീകരണത്തിലുമെല്ലാം മികവുള്ള ഒരു ചിത്രം . പ്രണയം ഒരു പുതിയ വിഷയമല്ല എന്നാൽ എന്നും കണ്ടു പരിചിതമായ വിഷയത്തെ വ്യത്യസ്തമായി സമീപിക്കാൻ സംവിധായകന് കഴിഞ്ഞു എന്നതാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ വിജയം.

സിനിമയോടുള്ള പ്രണയം കൊണ്ട് മറ്റെല്ലാമുപേക്ഷിച്ച അജയ ചന്ദ്രൻ . മറു വശത്ത് അമ്മയുടെ നിർബന്ധത്തിനു വഴങ്ങി അഭിനയത്രിയാകുന്ന മാളവിക .ആദ്യ സിനിമയിൽ നിന്നാരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഇവരുടെ പ്രണയം ഏതൊക്കെ ദിശകളിൽ കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു . പക്ഷെ ഒടുവിൽ എതിർ ദിശകളിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്തവർ ഒരിക്കലും അടുക്കാനാവാത്തത്രയും അകന്നു. സ്വാർഥ താല്പര്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി അജയൻ ചതിച്ചുവെന്നു തോന്നിയ മാളവിക എല്ലാവരിൽ നിന്നുമകന്നു . ജീവിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി സിനിമയിൽ അഭിനയിക്കുമെന്നല്ലാതെ മാളവികയുടെ മനസ്സിന്റെ മരണം ആരുമറിഞ്ഞില്ല . സത്യമറിയാൻ മാളു വൈകിപ്പോയി . വർഷങ്ങൾ വേണ്ടി വന്നു ഒന്നിക്കാൻ . മാളുവിന്റെയും അജയന്റെയും ജീവിതം സിനിമയാക്കാൻ ഇറങ്ങിത്തിരിച്ച അബു അക്ബർ എന്ന സംവിധായകനാണ് അവരെ ചേർക്കുന്ന കണ്ണി . കാൻസർ ബാധിച്ച് മരണക്കിടക്കയിൽ കഴിയുന്ന മാളുവിനെ കണ്ട അജയൻ പിന്നീടുള്ള കുറച്ചു നാളെങ്കിലും അവളെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു .

രോഗ ബാധിതർ രക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത് കുറവാണെങ്കിലും ഈ സിനിമയുടെ അവസാനം മാളുവും അജയനും സന്തോഷത്തോടെ കുറച്ചു നാളെങ്കിലും കഴിയുമെന്നൊരു വിശ്വാസം പ്രേക്ഷക മനസുകളിൽ എത്തിക്കാൻ രഞ്ജിത്ത് എന്ന സംവിധായകൻ വിജയിച്ചു . സിനിമയിലെ എല്ലാ ഗാനങ്ങളും നല്ലത് എന്നാലും എനിക്കിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഒരെണ്ണം ഇതാ ...

ദിക്കുകളേതെന്നുമെന്തെന്നുമറിയാതെ
സഞ്ചരിക്കവെ കാടും മലയും
കടലും കടന്നെവിടെയൊക്കൊയോ
എന്തിനെന്നറിയാതെയുള്ള യാത്രകളിൽ
കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയ മുഖങ്ങളിൽ പലതും
ഓർമതൻ മരച്ചില്ലയിൽ നിന്നുമടർന്നു വീണു
ഋതുഭേദങ്ങളിലെ ദേശാടനക്കിളികളെപ്പോലെ
തൂവൽ പൊഴിച്ച് പാറിപ്പറന്നു പോയി
ചിതറിക്കിടന്ന തൂവലുകൾ പെറുക്കി
ഓർത്തെടുക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചൊരാ
മുഖങ്ങളൊന്നും തളിരിടാതെ പോയി

Day One

Though I wake up early morning, one day I had to wake up earlier than the usual time. It is because I had to get ready for a celebrity interview with Krishnakumar, a well known actor in Malayalam and Tamil film industry. He stays at Sasthamangalam, a place in the Trivandrum city. I was in tension until the wave of euphoria blew from him and family.

His debut movie was Kashmeeram in the year 1994. Before that he was an anchor in Doordarshan, the national channel. The life, attitude and believes of an actor is totally different from that of a common man. He had done excellent roles in movies like - Kashmeeram, Vasanthiyum lakshmiyum pinne njanum, Melvilasam, Run baby run, Ladies and gentleman, Billa2 and more. He is not in super star list but even if it is a character for 1 minute he will be noted for his performance. He is very caring and loving person who is very much considerate about the society. There was a break in his career but through tamil movies he came back with strong and notable characters.

Krishnakumar know the harsh reality of life and believes in the action and mind of a person rather than prayers alone. It is not easy to understand, accept or appreciate his thoughts and action unless your attitude matches with him. With four kids (all girls) and wife he leads a very normal and simple life in the city without any collisions.
