Girls Be Safe
1) What should a woman do if she finds herself alone in the company of a strange male as she prepares to enter a lift in a high-rise apartment late at night?
Experts Say: Enter the lift. If you need to reach the 13th floor, press all the buttons up to your destination. No one will dare attack you in a lift that stops on every floor.
2) What to do if a stranger tries to attack you when you are alone in your house, run into the kitchen.
Experts Say: You alone know where the chili powder and turmeric are kept.And where the knives and plates are. All these can be turned into deadly weapons. If nothing else, start throwing plates and utensils all over.
Let them break. Scream. Remember that noise is the greatest enemy of a molester. He does not want to be caught.
3} Taking an Auto or Taxi at Night.
Experts Say: Before getting into an auto at night, note down its registration number. Then use the mobile to call your family or friend and pass on the details to them in the language the driver understands .Even if no one answers your call, pretend you are in a conversation. The driver now knows someone has his details and he will be in serious trouble if anything goes wrong. He is now bound to take you home safe and sound. A potential attacker is now your de facto protector!
4}What if the driver turns into a street he is not supposed to - and you feel you are entering a danger zone?
Experts Say: Use the handle of your purse or your stole (dupatta) to wrap around his neck and pull him back. Within seconds, he will feel choked and helpless. In case you don’t have a purse or stole just pull him back by his collar. The top button of his shirt would then do the same trick.
5} If you are stalked at night.
Expert Say: enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament. If it is night and shops are not open, go inside an ATM box. ATM centers always have security guards. They are also monitored by close circuit television.
Fearing identification, no one will dare attack you.
After all, being mentally alert is the greatest weapon you can ever have.

സിനിമയുടെ ഹിറ്റ്ലർ - ജോണ് എബ്രഹാം
ജോണ് എബ്രഹാം എന്ന പേര് കേട്ടാൽ മസ്സിലും പെരുക്കി നിൽക്കുന്ന ഹിന്ദി സിനിമ നടനെയാണ് പലരും ഓർമ്മിക്കുക . ക്ഷമിക്കണം , ഞാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച ജോണ് മലയാളിയായ കുട്ടനാട്ടുകാരൻ , സിനിമ സംവിധായകൻ . സിനിമയിലെ ഹിറ്റ്ലർ എന്ന് സ്വയം വിശേഷണം നൽകിയ ജോണിനെ കുറിച്ചൊന്നും അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു . യാദ്രിശ്ചികമായി കൈവന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകം ജോണിന്റെ ആശയ തീരത്തിലേക്കും സ്വപ്നലോകത്തെക്കുമുള്ള വാതിൽ എന്റെ മുന്നിൽ തുറക്കപ്പെട്ടു . ജോണിനെ അധികമാർക്കും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാതിരിക്കാനുള്ള കാരണം ആ പുസ്തക താളുകള മുഴുമിക്കും മുൻപേ എനിക്കു മനസ്സിലായി . സിനിമയോടുള്ള സ്നേഹവും ആത്മാർഥതയും മാത്രമുള്ളിൽ കൊണ്ടു നടന്ന ഒരതുല്യ പ്രതിഭാസം . ഇന്നത്തെ പ്രശസ്തരും അപ്രശസ്തരുമായ സംവിധായകരെ പോലെ അല്ല ജോണ് . തന്റെ സിനിമ എവിടെ തുടങ്ങണം എങ്ങനെ മുന്നോട്ടു പോകണം എവിടെ അവസാനിക്കണം എന്ന് മാത്രമല്ല ജോണ് ചിന്തിച്ചത് . ഓരോ സീനിലും എന്തെല്ലാം ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തണം , ക്യാമറ ലെൻസിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം , എഡിറ്റിംഗ് മുതലായ സാങ്കേതിക വശങ്ങളും മനസ്സിലാക്കി. സിനിമയുണ്ടാക്കി സമ്പാദിച്ച് പണക്കാരനാവാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല . താനുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന സിനിമ പ്രേക്ഷകരിലെത്തണം എന്ന മോഹം ജോണിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു .
ഇന്ന് നമുക്ക് ചുറ്റിലും കാണുന്ന ഒരു ഇന്റെല്ലെക്ക് ച്ചുവൽ വ്യക്തിത്വമല്ല ജോണ് . സാധാരക്കാർക്കിടയിലൂടെ നടന്ന ഒരു പ്രതിഭാസമെന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാം . അഗ്രഹാരത്തിലെ കഴുത അങ്ങനൊരു പേര് സിനിമയ്ക്ക് നൽക്കാൻ മറ്റാർക്കും പറ്റില്ല .അതാണ് ജോണ് .കഴുത എടുക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി ഒരവസരത്തിൽ യഥാർത്ഥ കഴുതയുടെ തലയോട്ടി അന്വേഷിച്ചു നടന്നു . ഒടുവിൽ മരിച്ചിട്ട് രണ്ടാഴ്ചയായ കഴുതയുടെ തലയോട്ടി ആ ദുർഗന്ധത്തോടെ കുഴിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ സംവിധായക വേഷമണിഞ്ഞ ആരുടെ കൈയും ഒന്നറയ്ക്കും . പക്ഷെ അവിടെയും ജോണ് വേറിട്ട് നിന്നു .അമ്മ എന്നാ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യത്തോട് വല്ലാത്ത അടുപ്പമായിരുന്നു ജോണിന് . താനെടുത്ത എല്ലാ സിനിമകളിലും അമ്മയെ പരാമർശിക്കാൻ ജോണ് മറന്നില്ല..
ഏതൊരു സിനിമയുടെയും വിജയത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ സംവിധായകനാണെന്ന് ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചു . സിനിമയുടെ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരംശം പോരാ എന്ന് തോന്നിയാൽ അത് സംവിധായകന്റെ പരാജയമാണ് . സംഗീതം ആവശ്യമെങ്കിൽ മാത്രം സംവിധായകനത് ഉൾപ്പെടുത്താം . ഏതെങ്കിലും സിനിമയിൽ തിരക്കഥ കൊള്ളാം പക്ഷെ സിനിമ പോരാ എന്ന് അഭിപ്രായം ഉയർന്നാൽ അവിടെയും പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നത് സംവിധായകനാണ് . സംവിധായകൻ പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നിടങ്ങലിലാണ് തിരക്കഥകൃത്തും മറ്റും വിജയിക്കുന്നത് .
സിനിമ എന്നും സംവിധായകന് മാത്രം സ്വന്തം.മറ്റുള്ളവർ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല എന്ന് അതിനർഥമില്ല . പക്ഷെ മറ്റുള്ളവർ എന്ത് ചെയ്യണമെന്നു തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നത് സംവിധായകനാണ് . മറ്റുള്ളവരെ എങ്ങോട്ട് എങ്ങനെ നയിക്കണമെന്ന വ്യക്തമായ ധാരണ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു ജോണ് എന്ന സംവിധായകന് .
ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ അപ്പൂപ്പന്റെ ഫോട്ടോഗ്രഫി പ്രണയത്തിൽ നിന്നും തുടങ്ങിയ കലാജീവിതം ജയ പരാജയങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മിശ്രമായിരുന്നു . സിനിമയിൽ നിന്നും മനസ്സകന്നു പോകാതിരിക്കാൻ വിവാഹം വേണ്ടാന്ന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു . അവാർഡുകളൊന്നും ലഭിക്കാത്തതിന്റെ കാരണം തിരക്കിയപ്പോൾ പറഞ്ഞ മറുപടി രസകരമാണ് " ഞാൻ വിധി കർത്താവല്ലായിരുന്നു . ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എല്ലാം ഞാൻ തന്നെ അടിച്ചെടുത്തേനെ "
മലയാളി ആയിട്ടും ആദ്യ സിനിമ തമിഴിനു സ്വന്തം . ശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ വളർച്ചയും ഉപയോഗവും എതിർത്തില്ല പക്ഷെ അതിലും നിർബന്ധം ഒന്നിൽ മാത്രം സംവിധായകന്റെ തീരുമാനത്തിനനുസരിച്ചു മാത്രം ശാസ്ത്രം പ്രവർത്തിക്കണം . നല്ല സിനിമകൾ ജനങ്ങളിൽ എത്തിക്കാത്തത് കൊണ്ടാണ് അവർ ചീഞ്ഞളിഞ്ഞ സിനിമകൾക്ക് പിന്നാലെ പോകുന്നത് എന്നാ സത്യം ജോണ് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിരുന്നു .
ഇത്രയൊക്കെ ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞല്ലോ എന്നാൽ ജോണിന്റേതായ ഒരു സിനിമ പോലും ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല . കേട്ടതും വായിച്ചതും മാത്രമാണിതെല്ലാം . ആരോ തീരുമാനിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഈ പുസ്തകമെന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തി അതുപോലൊരു തീരുമാനത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ കഴുതയും , ചെറിയാച്ചനും ,അമ്മയും എന്നരികിലേക്കൊഴുകി എത്തും .

കിഴക്കുദിച്ചു സൂര്യ ദേവൻ
അമ്മയെത്തി സ്നേഹത്തിൻ പാലുമായി
തൂവെള്ളപ്പല്ലുകൾ തേച്ചുമിനുക്കി ,
കുളിരുന്ന വെള്ളത്തിൽ കുളിച്ചു രസിച്ചു
ചെന്നിരുന്നു തീൻ മേശയ്ക്കരികിൽ
പ്രാതലിൻ വിഭവങ്ങൾ നിരനിരയായി
ഏതു ഭക്ഷിക്കണമെന്നറിയാതെ
ചിന്തിച്ചിരിക്കവേ , അതാ മുഴങ്ങി
പോം ... പോം ...
കത്തിജ് ജ്വലിക്കുമർക്കനെ നേരിടാൻ
ആഫ്രിക്കൻ മരുഭൂമിയിലൊരുപ്പറ്റമ്മമ്മമാർ
തോൾസഞ്ചിയിലേന്തി തൻ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ
ദാരിദ്ര്യത്തിൻ കുടക്കീഴിൽ
വിളറിയ ഭൂമിയിലൂടെ
മുന്നോട്ടു മുന്നോട്ടു....
ദൈവത്തിൻ നാടായ കേരള മണ്ണിലും
വിശേഷമിതൊക്കെത്തന്നെയുള്ളൂ
ഗർഭപാത്രത്തിനുള്ളിലലഞ്ഞു തിരിഞ്ഞു
പോഷകാഹാരമെത്തുന്ന പൊക്കിൾക്കൊടിക്കായി
കൊടിതന്നുടമയാമ്മമ്മയ്ക്കു നൽകാൻ
ദാരിദ്ര്യമൊന്നു മാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ

ജനാലകൾ തുറന്നിട്ടെന്നെ നീ സ്വീകരിച്ചു
കാലവർഷമെത്തി താണ് ഡവമാടുമ്പോൾ
ഉച്ചത്തിൽ വിളിച്ചിട്ടുമെൻ സ്വരം നീ കേട്ടില്ല
നീ അറിയാതെ നിന്നറയിൽ കുളിരുമായി
കടന്നു വന്നൊരു ശലഭമായെങ്കിൽ
നിശബ്ദമായി നിന്നരികിലിരിക്കെ
മയങ്ങിയ കണ്പ്പോളകളെന്തോ മന്ത്രിച്ചേനെ
എന്തെന്നറിയാൻ കാതോർക്കവേ
ഇന്ദുഗോപമെങ്ങോ മാഞ്ഞുപോയി
ഇരുട്ടിൻമറവിലെൻ നിഴലിനെ
കാണുവാൻ നിൻ കണ്ണുകൾക്കായില്ല
തണുത്തുറഞ്ഞു ഞാൻ അഹല്യയായി

In this cool night, I keep aside

A flash of light in the sky
