Musical legend Bhimsen Joshi

Music is an art which stand different from poetry, drawing etc. All over the world music has two forms, classical and popular. The door of popular music is open to a large number of people whereas the heavenly door of classical music is not open to everyone. Regular practice, mind to work hard, dedication, sincerity, moreover passion, in born talent and god’s grace are necessary to get into the world of classical music. Bhimsen Joshi was a man of that kind. He was born for the world of music.

Joshi was a childish man who was very friendly with his fellow mates. He always wished to be seated in front of the cars while travelling. He had a great passion for automobiles. If he didn’t become a musician, he would definitely have been an engineer, fulfilling his father’s wish. While performing he makes funny expressions with his face but once he step out of the stage, he regain his childishness. He received Padmasree in 1972, Padmabhooshan in 1985 and Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honor, in 2008. His performance in Doordarshan’s national integrity song ‘Mile sur mera tumhara’ will be remembered by all Indians and stay in their hearts forever. He died in Pune on Jan 24, 2011, due to prolonged illness.

If Ramatanu Pandey, popular as Tansen, was the musical legend in the Durbar of Akbar then Bhimsen Joshi was the Tansen of 21st century.
